Cavan Agricultural Agencies specialises in selling and servicing agricultural machinery, including tractors, mowers, sprayers, and other farming equipment.
When the owners first approached us, they had been operating for years without clear financial insight. Poor quality data and a lack of expertise in interpreting it meant they were making decisions without fully understanding their financial position. Their “minimise tax at all costs” approach forced them to work harder than necessary, ultimately stalling their business growth.

Cultivating clarity

As their external accountant and financial advisor, our first step was to improve the quality of their financial data and design management reports that reflected their business’s performance. We initiated regular management meetings and developed cash flow projections, including timelines for tax payments.

Next, we led strategy sessions to identify growth opportunities. To support their expansion, we created a financial framework that accounted for future capital needs, such as a warehouse upgrades that quadrupled its size. This framework also included improved systems for tracking sales and inventory, which helped free up working capital. We encouraged the team to shift to a “profit first, tax planning second” approach, ensuring maximum returns for shareholders while keeping tax obligations in check.
